India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: India Post has announced a major recruitment drive for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts. A total of 23,757 vacancies are available for eligible candidates across different Postal Circles in India.
The recruitment covers the posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak. Candidates who have passed Class 10 can apply online, subject to fulfilling the other eligibility conditions.
One of the major highlights of this recruitment is that there is no written examination or interview. Selection will be made on the basis of merit, based on the candidates’ Class 10 marks.
India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 – Overview
The recruitment is being conducted under the GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026.
The official notification was issued under Notification No. 17-12/2026-GDS.
A total of 23,757 Gramin Dak Sevak vacancies have been announced for various Postal Circles.

India Post GDS Vacancy 2026
India Post has announced 23,757 vacancies for GDS posts across different Postal Circles and Divisions.
Vacancies are available in several parts of the country, including different Postal Circles such as West Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and others.
A total of 1,762 vacancies are available in the West Bengal Postal Circle.
Candidates should check the official vacancy details before submitting their applications because the available posts and category-wise vacancies vary from one Postal Circle and Division to another.
Posts Available Under GDS Recruitment
- Branch Postmaster (BPM)
The Branch Postmaster is responsible for managing the activities of the Branch Post Office. The duties may include providing postal services, handling transactions, managing mail-related work, and providing India Post Payments Bank-related services.
- Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
An ABPM assists in the functioning of the Branch Post Office and may be involved in mail delivery, postal operations, sale of stamps and stationery, and other duties assigned by the department.
- Dak Sevak
Dak Sevaks perform various postal duties, including delivering mail and parcels, handling postal services, and assisting with the day-to-day activities of the Post Office.
Educational Qualification
Candidates applying for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 must have passed Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) from a recognised board.
Candidates must have studied Mathematics and English at the Class 10 level.
Candidates are also required to have studied the relevant local language of the Postal Circle up to at least the Secondary Standard.
Apart from the educational qualification, candidates should have:
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Knowledge of cycling.
- Adequate means of livelihood, as required under the GDS rules.
Candidates should carefully check the language requirement applicable to the Postal Circle for which they intend to apply.
Age Limit :
- The minimum age required to apply is 18 years.
- The maximum age limit is 40 years.
- Age relaxation will be available to eligible candidates belonging to reserved categories as per Government of India rules.
Generally, the applicable relaxation includes:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
Additional relaxation may be applicable depending on the candidate’s category and applicable government rules.
India Post Salary :
GDS employees are paid under the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) system.
The prescribed TRCA ranges are:
Branch Postmaster (BPM): ₹12,000 to ₹29,380
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)/Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 to ₹24,470
Eligible GDS employees may also receive applicable allowances and benefits according to the rules in force.
Application Fee :
The application fee for eligible candidates is generally ₹100.
However, female candidates, SC/ST candidates, PwBD candidates, and Transwomen candidates are exempted from paying the application fee as per the recruitment rules.
Candidates who are required to pay the fee can make the payment through the available online payment methods.
The application fee, once paid, will not normally be refunded.
Selection Process :
There is no written examination and no interview for selection to the GDS posts.
The selection will be carried out through a system-generated merit list prepared on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in their Class 10 examination.
The marks will be converted into the prescribed percentage/merit format as per the recruitment rules.
Candidates shortlisted through the merit list will subsequently have to undergo document verification.
Therefore, candidates with higher marks in Class 10 are generally in a stronger position in the merit-based selection process.
