The government of Mamata Banerjee is bringing a new scheme for SC and ST students of Bengal (Bengal). However, the benefit of this scheme will not be given to children of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The Mamata Banerjee government has already taken up several developmental projects for the people of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes of the state. The state government has taken several steps to ensure education-oriented scholarships and other financial assistance. The Chief Minister is launching the ‘Joggosree’ scheme so that they can secure higher education in educational institutions like III in the future. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate this project on Monday, January 8 at Dhandhanya Auditorium in Kolkata.

The Backward Classes Welfare Department of the state government provides free coaching to scheduled caste and tribal students for exams ranging from government jobs entrance exams to JEE, NEET, and WBJEE. This time only the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes children are being introduced to the ‘Yegheshree’ scheme. However, training for JEE, NEET and WBJEE exams has been going on for the last 2 years. 2880 students have taken this training in the last 2 years in 36 centers across the state. Out of them 2254 got proper place in the technical course. Buoyed by the huge success of 8 in IITs, 14 in NITs, 5 in IIITs, and 34 in MBBS and BDS, the Mamata Banerjee government is scaling up the scheme and has decided to increase the training time from 196 hours to 320 hours. Through this scheme, 2000 scheduled caste and tribal students will get free training every year in 50 new centers from 2024 onwards. At the same time, the children of Scheduled Castes and Tribes will also be trained for the entrance examination of government jobs through the ‘Veeghashree’ scheme. The scheme has a comprehensive facility of pre-examination training for recruitment to Groups B, and C, and posts in Banks, Railways, Post offices, Military and paramilitary Forces, Police, Government and Government Organizations, etc. For this, the backward class welfare department of the state is going to arrange a 300-hour and 6-month course. There is a good arrangement of classes for 4 hours per day, 3 days a week. 2 centers will be opened in each district for this training. A total of 2300 students will get this facility in 23 centers in the financial year 2023-24 and 2 centers every year in a total of 46 centers.
